The William Hill and 32Red gambling groups are due in court again today following the successful claim 32Red made against William Hill for copyright infringement over the 32Vegas brand name.
Yesterday, the two companies appeared in London High Court once more after 32Red followed up its earlier action with a further injunction prohibiting William Hill from using the 32Vegas brand name anywhere within the European Union.
William Hill had asked for the case to be discussed in a private hearing in order to protect commercial prospects, however, the Court rules that it was in the public interest that the case be heard in public court with the issues raised made accessible to the public. The Court also insisted that William Hill publicise the Court’s findings on its gambling-related websites.
The two companies are expected in Court again today to discuss the compensation due to 32Red due to the copyright infringement and subsequent loss of earnings caused by customer confusion over the brand name similarities.
The brand name 32Vegas, which had been used by William Hill for one of its gaming sites had been at the centre of a dispute between William Hill and 32Red for two years. This week the matter will finally be settled and appropriate compensation decided.
